Diabetes affects 5.8% of people in Ireland at present (190,000) with an estimated 30,000 of these not diagnosed yet. This figure is set to increase by 60% in the next 10-15 years. Knowing the symptoms and risk factors for Diabetes is important as non-diagnosis can damage your heart, eyes , nerves, kidneys and arteries leading to serious health problems. Here at Calderwood Family Clinic we can perform a fasting screening blood test for Diabetes.

Asthma is a chronic disease which affects 7% of our population over 18yrs and 19% of 13 to 15 year olds. Here at Calderwood Fanily Clinic we can assess your inhaler technique, diagnose and treat asthma. We can give nebulised treatment to those who require it and yearly flu vaccination and once off pneumonia vaccine to all asthmatics.

COPD affects an estimated 400,000 people in Ireland with half of these having moderate to severe disease. Smoking is the major risk factor and recent studies have shown that women are more susceptible then men with similar cigarette exposure. Here at Calderwood Family Clinic we provide Spirometry to help diagnose COPD. Help with inhaler technique and lifestyle .

Cardiovascular disease accounts for over 40 % of all deaths in Ireland.Here at Calderwood Family Clinic we screen for Hypertension and High Cholesterol.
